Those Who Are There For Me
(A Testament to My Guardians)
For those who bombarded me with their love,
When darkness seemed to loom above,
Who fired volleys of pure light,
Through every dark and endless night,
Who never ceased their steady rain
Of hope, when hope seemed all in vain—
I say thank you, I shout hooray,
For every single blessed day.
For those who handed me their hope
Like precious gold upon a rope,
Who wove their dreams into my hair,
Who showed me how to fight and dare,
Who lifted me when I was down,
Who turned my sighs into a crown—
I promise now, with everything,
To make your hearts dance wild and sing.
The guardians of my stumbling feet,
Who watched me fall upon the street,
But never rushed to lift me up,
Instead taught strength was in my cup.
You knew the power of skinned knees,
Of lessons learned through autumn trees—
I hold you sacred in my mind,
Your wisdom, rough but always kind.
This banner that you handed me,
This flag of possibility,
It weighs so heavy in my hands,
But oh, I'm learning how to stand.
To lift it high against the sky,
To make it dance, to make it fly.
Each thread you wove with patient care,
I'll honor with the breath I share.
I'm such a work in progress still,
Like clay upon the potter's wheel,
But feel the shape I'm growing to,
Feel how I'm stretching, becoming new.
Don't lose your hope in what you see,
This chrysalis of who I'll be—
I'm pushing, pushing through the night,
Toward the person in your sight.
Through Christmas frost and winter rain,
Through triumph's joy and learning's pain,
I'm readying my wings to soar,
To be the one you're waiting for.
Each stumble teaches me to fly,
Each failure lights the darkened sky,
And in this season's holy glow,
I feel the strength you helped to grow.
So stick with me, my beacons bright,
My stars that pierce the deepest night,
My champions who believed when I
Could barely lift my head to try.
I'll be the more you saw in me,
I'll stretch beyond what I can see,
I'll take this raw and ready heart
And forge it to a work of art.
The tasks ahead may tower high
Like mountains scraping winter sky,
But I will climb them, step by step,
Until your pride brings tears that kept
Hidden behind your patient eyes,
While watching me learn how to rise.
I'll do what must be done at last,
To honor every bridge we've passed.
This Christmas time, I stand and say
To all who helped me find my way:
Your faith was never misplaced here,
Though progress sometimes disappears
Behind the clouds of doubt and fear—
Keep watching as I persevere.
The banner that you gave to me
Will fly as high as stars can see.
For I am more than what I was,
Because you gave without a pause,
Your time, your faith, your guiding light,
Your presence through the longest night.
And though I'm still in progress here,
My dedication burns so clear:
To make you proud, to show you all
I heard each whispered protocol.
So celebrate this truth with me,
This journey toward what I can be,
This testament of gratitude
For every lesson, harsh or good.
I'm ready now to take my place,
To meet tomorrow face to face,
To be the one you always knew
Was hiding, waiting to break through.
For those who bombard me still with love,
Who watch and guide me from above,
Who never let me walk alone,
Who help me turn my heart to stone
When needed, yet show me the way
To keep it soft for gentler days—
I thank you now, I thank you here,
I thank you through each coming year.
And as these Christmas bells ring clear,
Announcing hope for one more year,
I lift this promise to the sky:
I will become your reason why
The faith you placed in me was right,
The torch you lit still burns so bright.
I am, and always hope to be,
The one you dreamed that you could see.
